President's Day

We are on week 3 of Alan being gone, and the kids were ready to go out and do something fun. So, we took the day off on Monday and went up to Zion. We went to the lodge and hung out on the grass and had a picnic. Cohen brought his soccer ball and we played around. Then....

We went up through the tunnel. First time ever for my kids. They loved it. Then we hiked the Overlook trail. It is only 1 mile round trip, but I'm not sure if the kids could have taken much more. I guess we will have to start practicing longer distances.

Oh, and I forgot my camera so these are phone pictures, hope they turned out ok.

Cohen's contribution to the day: "I hate hiking, it makes me to sweaty and tired."

Hush Hush

I just finished reading Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, and I have to say it was pretty good. I guess it is in the Twilight type genre, but I feel like this book has way more potential and does not include vampires. It's the first book of what will be a series. Read it. It was a quick fun read.

Las Vegas

Alan and I went and stayed in Las Vegas last weekend because he had to catch a flight to Texas on sunday morning. While we were there we did a few different activities. Most seeming to be food related. So, first thing saturday, we went and used Alan's gift certificate to THE GUN STORE. I wasn't sure how this gift was going to pan out, but Alan loved it. He chose to shoot a M16, an automatic rifle, and something else I don't know the name of. As you can see from his target. He totally saved the chick.

After that we did some shopping and I got a new bling cell phone cover.

We checked in at the Hard Rock. My favorite hotel we have stayed at so far by the way.

We then planned an early dinner at PF Changs. We then tried to catch the IMAX 3D showing of Avatar. Totally missed it, so we decided to head back to the hotel. On our way to our room we passed the Pink Taco and decided to eat again. Well, we were just planning on getting some dessert, but well.....I think I just found my new favorite place, despite the name.

Anyway, now you have a complete run down of my weekend.

Hard Rock Hotel

So I was making reservations last night at the Hard Rock Hotel for Saturday. And guess what I found? One of my favorite bands, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. They will be playing there tonight! Oh how I wish I was there. 2 days early. With someone to watch my kids.

Ok, I know I said I was going to start blogging again......but what am I suppose to put up here? I have totally lost it. My life is so boring right now. Oh, Alan is going to Texas for about 1 month on sunday. We are going to go stay the weekend in Vegas before his flight. That will be fun. I'll try to remember to take some pictures. We were thinking we were going to see Avatar at the IMAX theater. Everyone has told me that is the best. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Ok, so there are obviously a lot of things that have been going on this last year, but I don't think I am going to back track. I'll do Christmas. That's all you get.

So here is Christmas morning.

Here is my parent's Christmas party, which is always fun. All the grandkids love that Santa makes an appearance every year. Plus, the talent show. They are all a bunch of spotlight hogs. Haha...just kidding. This is Cohen and his best bud Santa.

Furniture - Before

Ok, I have had a lot of people asking me to see my furniture. So, here it is. For my birthday in September my Mom let me get my furniture recovered. I was so excited because our furniture is really old......These chairs, were my mom's and are like 30 years old. The couch is awesome, but from the 70s. So the recovering was desperately needed.

This ottoman Alan and I had my brother in law Jesse make the frame for, then we upholstered ourselves. It has lasted like 4 years, and that seemed like long enough. It needed to be recovered, but we just decided to have a new one made.
This is what my living room looked like for about 1 week while our furniture was away getting a face lift. It was pretty stressful looking through all the fabrics and trying to decide what to do. I am going to have this furniture for a long time, so it was scary. But, I came across one print that I loved, and the rest fell into place.

We had a really fun time. We played in the snow, went to Pine Valley, did our family Christmas party which was super fun, and of course my kids LOVED Christmas morning.

For FHE we decorated wood ornaments for Grandma's tree. I think they turned out really cute. Elyza and Cohen loved it, and it was quick and easy. We just used glue and glitter.

I am really excited about christmas this year. We put our tree up the week of Thanksgiving, I have all of my shopping done, we went to see Santa, and I have tons of activities planned for the kids. We are decorating ornaments for Grandma tonight, then next monday we will be decorating a gingerbread house, we will hopefully get out to see the Tuachan Nativity, and our Family Christmas party will be really fun. ( Elyza has to sing a song, so we need to work on that too.) Hope everyone has an excellent holiday season. Hopefully I'll get around to posting before Christmas.

I finally got around to recovering my kitchen chairs. I bought the fabric several months ago, but just recently got it done. As you can see, the old covers, which were only suppose to be for christmas lasted 2 years. They are really gross. I also got fabric for my zebra ottoman. It is really dirty too, but, I haven't had time to do those ones yet. I'll let you know. When that gets done.

Surgery

Alan had another surgery on his foot on Friday. They went in and took out all the hardware. 12 screws and 3 plates in all. He was pretty delerious after the surgery and was calling all sorts of people, saying I have no idea what. Not much different than usual I guess. But he is doing good now. He just needs to take it easy until Tuesday, then he will probably end up wearing a boot for about 6 weeks.

When we were in SLC this past weekend we went to IKEA on our way home and picked out a desk. My mom and dad headed up that way in his truck just a few days later and picked it up for us. I love it, it fits in our little corner perfectly.

Elyza's Preschool did a field trip to Staheli Farms for October. It was really fun. Claire goes to the same preschool so they got to hang out together all day. It was really fun. The Park

On Friday we went to Tonaquint Park, the weather was perfect, I had my blanket and a book, and we were settling in for a nice long stay, when Elyza comes running up with blood running down her face. She was running and hit her face on the stairs of the playground. So, we drove over to instacare, but they sent us to the hospital. She ended up with 5 stitches above her lip, and her teeth are probablly going to turn grey from getting bumped so hard, and she has a dentist appointment next week.....I hope there is no permanent damage to her teeth.

Ok, so Cohen's Birthday turned out really fun. We had a ton of people show up, mostly family.
All the little kids dressed up like pirates, and we went and did a treasure hunt in the desert. We had hamburgers and hot dogs, and deserted island pirate cupcakes. I think everything turned out really fun. Thanks everyone for coming and bringing gifts for Cohen, and for everyone who helped. He had tons of fun!

The Syphus Family went camping up on Cedar mountain last weekend and it was really fun. Alan and I actually just went up Saturday morning and spent the day, but the weather was nice, and the kids had tons of fun. We also brought out hammock and that turned out fun too. Oh, and I was stung by a bee.

OK, so I have been really bad at blogging, but here is at least some of what has been going on. Spencer and Taylor were married in August. Wahoo! It was a really fun wedding, glad I was there. Then, Angie and I took the kids to Jumping Jacks in Washington. It was really fun. The kids loved it, especially on a hot day.

Family Reunion

So we got back from Lava last night and it was way fun. I think we had about 70+ people show up. We had the entire hotel there so it was nice not to have to worry about strangers and noise levels ect. But the kids loved the pools, I think there were 5. They were warm from the hot springs. And the river was right behind the hotel, and we brought tons of tubes for floating the river. It was way fun too. One night we did a horse ride and dutch oven, and had a guy come and talk about family history. Then mostly we just visited people we haven't seen for a long time, and did a lot of swimming. Thanks Dad! Way fun.
P.S. Cohen has been asking for Whitney still. Just in case you read this.

The camping trip turned out really fun. We went to Whitney Pockets, just south of Mesquite. While we were there we went to Devil's Throat, and we drove the 4wheelers and trucks about 25 miles down to Lake Mead. The kids found seashells and we had lunch. Chris an Shawn came up from Phoenix and brought some friends so there was a big group....it was way fun.
Oh, and Grandma planned an Easter egg hunt. The kids loved it. Thanks everyone for a way fun time.

I made these stockings a few years back, and I still love them. They are a green velvet on the outside with silk lining. The top is silk with beaded trim. I couldn't find what I wanted so decided to make them. they were so easy. I only have 3 done, so I need to make a few more once I find the right fabrics.

I hired a cleaning lady....she starts tomorrow. I am so excited because I absolutely hate cleaning. I think it will be worth it, especially through Christmas....I'll let you know how it goes. She will only come once a month, so that should keep the cost down too.

Trades

I think I am totally getting into this trading thing. It is really nice. Of course, I trade babysitting at the gym for a free pass for Alan and myself, and that works out really nice.

Then I started trading days for babysitting with my sister, and that works out really nice, I get one day a week where I don't have the kids from 9-4. Its really nice. (Lindsay, I can only do Tuesday....If you want to do just every other tuesday? or if you want to find someone else with more days...go for it...just let me know)

And now, Natalie has started trading dinner with 3 other people in her neighborhood. What? I know. They as take a different day Mon-Thurs. And they make dinner for everybody, and deliver it. So far she loves it.....she has home cooked dinner 4 nights of the week with only cooking once, plus easy clean up...and she says it is cheaper. I am definately looking into this one. Anyone wanna try? You have to live by me though.

Halloween

Okay, so I know I am really late at posting these, but I figure I should anyway. Halloween was really fun. We did Trunk or Treat on Tuesday, then on Wednesday we went to Natalie's block party. It was really fun to go hang out. Then we went to Grandma's of course. The first picture is of Cohen (Peter Pan), Elyza (Cinderella), Cooper (skunk), Maddy (Kiki), and Cash (Pirate).

Alan's Accident

Ok, Alan was working out at Mt. Trumble on Thursday, he was suppose to come home that night and help me babysit my sister Natalie's kids....that bring my total to 8 kids until sunday....so anyway. I get his call around 1 saying he is headed into town to go to the hospital. I seriously thought he was kidding, or over reacting. But, turns out I was wrong. Turns out they were driving a Rhino back from a Lookout and it rolled. After a few hours at the hospital he calls me and tells me they are going into surgery...(what? Surgery for a broken foot?) So, Dr. Leon Reber....(sound familiar?) did his surgery, I found Mckay to babysit for my while I head down to the hospital so I am there when he gets out...I am waiting for 5 Hrs! I go up and see the surgeon, and he shows me this..... His after photo. He has 3 bright new plates of metal holding his bones together....and a rod, that will be removed in 4-6 weeks. The rest is all the staples closing his foot up from the surgery. So anyway, this has been my weekend. Alan is in the hospital until at least saturday, when they will determine if he needs another surgery.

Marathon Weekend

Last weekend we took a drive up to Cedar Breaks to check out the leaves, and let the kids run around and play....that didn't exactly work out. The drive was great, the leaves good, but by the time we got to Cedar Breaks to play, we were in a white out almost....so lunch at Brianhead was out too. Instead, we back tracked to Cedar City and played at their awesome park, if you have the time it is totally worth it, my kids could play there all day.

A Few Things...

It has been a really long time since I have posted, so I have a few things....first, it was Cohen's 2nd Birthday...I don't have any really good pictures, because we didn't really have a party. And he hates cake, so I didn't make him one of those either. But, thanks to Ashlynn's recent trip to IKEA, he has this new car rug....not the best picture, but he loves it.

Next, we have Alan's brother Spencer returning home from his mission. Welcome home Spencer! As you can see, he is already trying to work his way up the favorites list with the nieces and nephews.

And finally, this weekend the Syphus Family planned a camp out to the Grand Canyon. It was so much fun. Alan was out of town and I only went out for Friday, but fun regardless. We went to Rainbow rim. We also drove out to Point Sublime. I highly recommend it. It was so amazing.

Nano Luck

My old Nano has conveniently decided to stop working about 1 week before the new video Nano's have come out. So, since I have a 2 year replacement from best buy, I went there, and it was replaced for one of these little guys. I love it. It is really nice. I think that is the only reason I really like Best buy, and of course, I bought another 2 year replacement. You have to get one for the ipod, they never last as long as you think they should.

I have to say that I have not been to the library for....well....probably since middle school....or even more. I went about a month ago and got a new card, and have been going back about every week or so for a new book. It has been really great. Saves money, because I have not had to buy books to read....and extremely helpful because I am so sick of watching t.v. These books have been much more entertaining. You can go to the library website and look up a book, if they have it, they will even pull it out for you so you just have to run in to the front counter....so convenient. So, go to the library people.

Ok, I have been gone for a while.....let me fill you in.
We went to Delta the weekend before last with the Anderson's. Alan and Pete competed in a motorcycle race. I think Pete did pretty good....Alan.....not so good. He had a good start, then some bad luck on the first lap. After that, on Monday, I went to Phoenix to visit my sister-in-law Shawn. All in all it was a really fun trip. We went swimming, took the kids to the science center, and a bunch of other stuff. I'll post some pictures hopefully later on today.

Labor Day

For Labor Day we went to the Veyo Pool. It was so much fun. Elyza swam, of course, but Cohen didn't want to swim and he ended up by the river with Maddy and Cooper. We relaxed in the shade by the camp grounds and just hung out. Thanks Syphus Family for thinking of such fun activities!

Conversations

Matt: The requirements for a good movie are first, it has to be totally unrealistic. If it could ever happen, then it is not a good movie.

Jimmy: You know what a good movie is that I think you would like, it's rated "R" though. 300.

Matt: I don't let the "R" rating get in the way of the things I love.

Maybe you had to be there...but if you know Matt....it's totally hilarious.

Hair Cut

Jordan's blog reminded me that I really love In-N-out. They are suppose to be opening up in Washington UT, but it has been so long....so I inquired. Here is their response.

Last Minute

Alan got home on Monday night from a 2 week fire detail in Idaho. So, last minute, we decided to head down to vegas. My mom watched the kiddies, and we got to drive her cute little car.
We stayed at the Treasure Island Hotel.
We went shopping a little bit, and we went to dinner at the cutest little Italian place in the Venetian hotel.
Finally, we went to Phantom of the Opera, playing at the Venetian Hotel. It was so much fun. They play was incredible. I for sure recommend everyone to go see it.

Caved

I went on an ITunes shopping spree the other day. I just couldn't hold back anymore. I love Robin Thicke. So I had to buy the entire CD. It was a good decision....I like most of the songs.
It's just really mellow listening. I also bought Kanye and some other stuff.....check out Dave's blog for an awesome video for Kanye's song "Can't tell me nothin". (second song on the post)

I finished this book this weekend. It is soooo good. Of course like Kite Runner, it is really really sad. You need to for sure read this. I know I have been reading tons, but Alan is coming home today (finally) so I doubt I will keep this up.
He is leaving again on Saturday or sunday, so any other book you can recommend, please share.

I have been reading a lot of books lately...I'm not sure why, just bored I guess......I read "The Kite Runner" a while ago, but I was thinking about it. It is so good....It's the sort of book that you think about for a long time afterwards. It is a book everyone should read. I was thinking about it because his new book "A Thousand Splendid Suns" came out and I am looking forward to reading that one too.

The Storm

I know it is really late, but I was at my Mom's house in Kayenta the last big rain storm.....After it was over these waterfalls were all along the back of the mountain. I have always heard about waterfalls coming off the hill....but this is the first time I have actually seen it. So pretty.

I don't think I can even count how many people have recommended this book to me:

Vampires?!.....Romance?!......Seriously...I'm not into that.
Alan is going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks, so I went to the mall and decided to get it.....just as something to do while he was gone.
It was not a mistake.
I read this book in seriously one night, (lame for me, I know) but if you are just looking for a fun/vacation/summer read. This one is definately a good one.
I feel silly recommending it, but seriously.....it's good.
I also went back the next day and bought the next book in the series, and the third book comes out tuesday, and I am sure I will pick that one up as well.
